5 REASONS TO START PODCASTING
October 25, 2021My podcast journey started in 2016 with a desire to create and share great content that could be used to train leaders across the United States serving in a similar capacity as myself. I pitched the idea at various levels of the organization in which I was serving and believe it or not, it was a tough sell. Podcasting, it seemed to many, was reserved for those who already had voices of influence - entertainers, respected leaders, and mega-church pastors. Though several thought it to be a novel idea, few recognized the potential in the medium.
Two years later, after months of research and development and with the hesitant backing of my employer, I launch my first podcast. I wish I could say it was great (or even good) from the get go, but we certainly had our fair share of hiccups along the way. First there was the element of human interaction between myself, my co-host and any guests we invited on. It takes time to build chemistry and rapport with others, and even longer when there's a mic in front of you recording those conversations! Then there was the technology side of things that involved recording, editing, producing, and uploading which none of us had any experience in either. What equipment did we need? How long would it take to edit? What's a compressor and why do I need to know that? But as we went, we got better. We built chemistry. I learned what tools were necessary and how to use them. We upgraded our equipment. We improved our sound. And we upgraded again. Now, with three years of that podcast under my belt, I've branched out and launched a second one of my own. I've had the pleasure of helping 3 other organizations develop and launch their own podcasts and have consulted with a handful of other individuals on their upcoming projects.
More and more companies, organizations, and individuals are recognizing the potential of the podcast medium to build their communities and connect with their audiences. And I'm here for that. The problem I'm seeing... or rather, hearing... is that there are a lot of GOOD podcasts that suffer from BAD audio. When the audio is bad, people are not inclined to listen to the great things you have to share with them. I founded Summit City Studios on the principal that great content should sound great. And so here I am, in the fall of 2021 starting this production company to help current and aspiring podcasters get the most out their content through crisp and clear audio. So if you're here for that, you're invited to join me in this new adventure.
This really is just the beginning...
